  • WMH is a four-bed hospital located in rural Chautauqua County, providing emergency care and critical life-saving services to 30,000 residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • The hospital and its ER provide routine and emergency medical care to nearly 30,000 tourists and vacationers who frequent the area during the summer season, including the nearly 10,000 who reside annually at the Chautauqua Institution. Each year the Institution welcomes another 100,000 visitors who have routine and emergency medical needs.
  • WMH utilizes state-of-the-art technology to access the finest specialists in the region, providing patients with critical care and the expertise of a much larger hospital.
  • WMH currently offers limited inpatient services and a wide variety of outpatient services including a busy outpatient surgical suite.
  • Outpatient diagnostic services that WMH provide includes newly improved X-ray services, 24/7 laboratory services, cardiac diagnostics and nuclear stress testing.
  • WMH offers a variety of women’s health services, including mammography, sonography, ultrasound and bone densitometry.
  • Many local primary care physicians rely heavily on the WMH emergency department to provide after hours and weekend care for their patients.
  • Children under the age of 18 account for nearly 2,000 visits annually to the emergency department. These children come from many local school districts including Brocton, Chautauqua Lake, Ripley Area, Westfield Area and Central School, and Sherman.
  • Currently, there are three distinct Amish communities within the WMH service area representing a population of 1,200 or roughly 5 percent of the overall regional population.
  • WMH has a long-term affiliation with Saint Vincent Health System (SVHS) in Erie, Pa.
  • The relationship between WMH and SVHS is an example of how a collaborative approach can work to provide a hybrid care delivery model.
  • The hybrid delivery model has improved the quality of care delivery through standardization, immediate access to specialty physicians and streamlined access to tertiary care.
  • WMH is a training location for physicians in the SUNY system, physical therapy and physician assistant students from both NY and PA schools.
  • WMH is one of the top five employers within the community, with 100 full-time, part-time and per diem employees.
